Joe van Benten ran a successful custom furniture business on Rte 9 in Brookline for many years. He is looking for a good home for 2 items.

    1) a nearly complete collection of Fine Woodworking magazines. might be missing two or three issues from the beginning until two years ago.

    2) A State spindle sander is of unknown vintage. I bought at auction and never set it up. I did plug it in and it ran. Single phase 220 volts. (see photo)

If interested, contact Joe at joe@vanbenten.com or phone 617-947-6575 .

I brought my son to pick up the Oscillating Spindle Sander (280 lbs) and was able to restore it to useable condition in two weeks (a record for me). The machine works awesome but there are still two issues I need to address. The dust collection needs further refinement and the motor often requires me to spin the spindle to get going. (Not looking a gift Horse in the mouth here).

On this latter issue, I don't believe there is a capacitor and I'm running it on 240v single phase so I'm thinking that maybe there is a dead spot on the commutator, or could it be the brushes? I don't believe it has a magnetic starter either.
