SHELIX (Helical/Spiral) cutter heads

    Thinking about getting a SHELIX cutter head for 12" jointer at Lexington Arts & crafts

    society shop.

    Have heard some complaints about small longitudinal ridges left by these cutters.

    Any one have experience /comments / recommendations concerning these heads?

    Jules,

    I have this type of cutter on my 20" planer. It works great, although there are still some regular Moiré effects visible. Still, it does a great job on almost any grain wood. I would recommend it.

    I have one on my 8" jointer, amazingly clean on just about anything I throw at it.  I am tempted to put one on my 20" planer but the cost is steep and I think I will continue to improve my cabinet scrapers...
