Artisan’s Asylum in Alston is looking for a woodworking instructor for August 5th

We are planning a multi-shop event on Aug 5 where we will host a group of amazing teen urban gardeners from the Worcester YouthGROW urban farm, and we need an instructor and a TA (paid) to run the woodshop portion of this event where they will make garden tool handles to go with the metal trowel blades that other teens will be making in the metal shop.

    Here's the basic outline:

    • We're hosting the team of 25 teen summer gardeners from the Worcester REC YouthGROW urban farm, together with ~6 of their adult staff as chaperones.
    • We will work in 5 shops: Metal (making trowel blades), Wood (making handles), Digifab (making rubber stamps), Screen Printing (making aprons and signs), and Jewelry.
    • The format will be an all-day event. The group arrives via their bus at ~10am; we gather in the large classroom, and then split into prearranged teams of 6-8 to go to the shops for a 2-hr session in the morning, then ~30min lunch in the classroom, then the afternoon 2-hr session in different shops, and then closing with group photo by about 3pm.
    • Each shop has one instructor (paid $75/hr I think) and an assistant. Each pair will be on duty for about 5 hours and will be allowed a few hours of paid advance prep time (at a different rate)

Last year, the teens said that their field trip to A2 was the highlight of their whole summer. They were hard-working and a ton of fun to work with, and I'm sure anyone interested in joining us will enjoy the experience.

Since this workshop is coming up soon, I would appreciate it if you could pass this along to anyone who might be interested. Thank you so much in advance, we really appreciate it!

if anyone has questions or is interested, please email Sarah at education@artisansasylum.com

or post here and I’ll follow up.
