Rachel DeFilipp, an administrator at Camp Gan Israel, a summer day camp in Chestnut Hill, is seeking a woodworking instructor to come to the camp either during the week of June 23rd or June 30th to make a simple age-appropriate woodworking project with our campers. This is a paid position.
In the past, instructors from the Eliot School did this, but the school has cut back on such activities. The camp does not have a shop per se, but so the instructor would need to bring necessary materials, hand tools, and supplies, with the camp paying for same. You would need to pre-cut parts and instruct the campers in gluing, clamping, painting, etc. The camp brings in different visiting instructors each week to introduce campers to various crafts and skills.
Rachel further explains: “We divide campers into similarly aged groups of no more than 25 campers per group (we could discuss this if this is big for you) and they visit woodworking once a day for a 45 minute class 4 times throughout the week. The goal would be to complete a simple age appropriate project by the end of the week. Our campers range in age from 4 to 12 years old but I was thinking that perhaps rising 1st graders and up would participate. I was hoping there may be someone in the guild who may be interested in such an opportunity. If there is a member who is potentially interested, I would love to connect. I can also be reached by phone at 734-645-8795.”
If interested, either call Rachel or email her at rachel@chabadch.com.
