C. B. Fisk Organbuilders - Open Shop
Saturday, August 17, 2 pm - 6 pm
You are cordially invited to join us at our Gloucester workshop to celebrate the creation of two new pipe organs. Hong Kong Baptist University will be the home of Opus 158, a 3 manual, 33 stop recital organ and Opus 159, a 3 manual, 7 stop companion practice organ. Both instruments will be on display and playing. We look forward to seeing you.
In operation since 1961 C. B. Fisk has been producing organs continuously on Cape Ann for the global market. Upon completion of each project, they have an open house to showcase their new work. Come see how this comprehensive manufacturing process works with a full factory tour which includes architecture, drafting, woodshop, metal foundry, machine shop, both wood and metal organ pipe shops and all the supporting trades that go into such a comprehensive design and manufacturing process. Of note, the woodshop is full of old Iron and it produces beautiful millwork as well as high quality instrument components for each organ. The shops that produce the voicing for the organs is fascinating and is complete with a foundry that makes the sheet metal in house for the alloys that give each pipe its specific voice. Many of the craftspeople who work there are on hand for questions.
Light refreshments are served. You will also hear the instruments being played and can also set up a time to try your hand at playing these beautiful instruments. Contact them for details.
With thanks to John LeJeune for alerting us to this opportunity!
