Ed Payne was good enough to compose an announcement marking the recent passing of Bill Karp, a founder and past president of the Guild. I joined the Guild after Bill's involvement, and I invite veteran members who knew him to share a short story or two about him.
I posted the following private remembrance on the page from the funeral home:
Dear Catherine and Family,
We have not met, but I'm sending condolences on behalf of the Eastern Massachusetts Guild of Woodworkers, which Bill was so instrumental in starting years ago. In that time, we've grown and thrived, now having over a 130 members dedicated to the values that Bill helped articulate from the start.
While many current members never had the chance to work with him, there are still those who remember him fondly. We like to think that he would take pride in knowing that the organization lives on, bringing together women and men who share a passion for woodworking, and delight in making wispy hand plane shavings.
