I'm looking to upgrade my old 3-blade 12.5" Delta planer, and have been looking at the Oliver machine at Woodcraft. I haven't been able to find many reviews, but they are all quite positive. Does anyone own one of these or have relevant experience? I'm leaning towards taking the plunge, and want to know if I should lean away.

For several reasons, I've decided against retrofitting the current machine with a Shelix cutterhead.

    Thanks in advance!

i've been happy with my 13" delta planer (about 5-7 years old( although the noise is horrible; i've considered a shelix retrofit but shudder at the thought I won't be able to install it correctly.  If I had it to do over again I would spring for the Oliver.

    Rob,

I have no personal experience with Oliver but, while researching for my planer, there were many positive reviews of the Oliver brand of planers. The only comment I would make is to ensure the motor has sufficient HP for the helical head as I was informed that the drawback / benefit of the spiral cutters is one cutter is always engaged in the wood, but you probably already know that.
