When emails arrive marketing the tools you would like to have or a promotion or sale is advertised, what initiates your motivation to buy or pass?  Or perhaps while working on a project you’d benefit in quality, safety, or time to finish what would move you to get that in your hands?  It’s a tough call.  Discretionary savings is often inversely proportional to the desirability of certain tools.  So when, if ever, do you pull the string to buy?

Andrew Davis has some thoughts about that in his newest Bevel Cut article on Tool Shopping.

Andrew Davis brings to us a fascinating description of his Inside-Out Live Edge Mirror Frame.  Starting with a slab of ash, Andrew transforms that with some creative cuts to build a frame for a mirror that gives a natural, “edgy” appearance.  Andrew preserves the natural contours of the slab with a thoughtful consideration over where the frame segments are made.  The eye-popping appearance is only surpassed by the approach that Andrew took to make it.

Are you ready for some (more) math?  Ovals and eggs (ellipses, if you will) and constructing right angles (isosceles and 30/60) are laid out with the woodworker in mind.

And to top it off there's a flashback (no, not to high school!) to last month's Bevel Cut article about the golden ratio.

Here, in simple but quadratic terms is the solution for the golden ratio using the golden ratio equation.  Not only does this unlock the ever present golden ratio but it confirms the reason why they teach us this stuff in the first place in high school.  You don't have to be a Euclid (Founder of Geometry), Vitruvius (Architecture), Fibonacci (Nature), Da Vinci (Art) or Kepler (Astronomy) now that Bevel Cut is here.

Math Redux class starts with a click here.

    Andrew welcomes your feedback.
