Lost Boston Bandings & Paterae’s
Michael Wheeler is a retired historian, woodcarver & cabinetmaker who has
45 years experience restoring and researching Period Furniture, specializing in Boston
Furniture made by John & Thomas Seymour.

He’ll be showing samples and talking about discoveries and techniques used by
skilled craftsmen that have been lost to time.

Colored, branded bandings and branded paterae’s were made and used in the Federal Period
to embellish a new style and idea's in Boston. Patriotic (Red, White and Blue) bandings
and branded, colored and political paterae's were the
hit of the Federal Period cheering on the turn of the 18th Century and
the celebration of a new nation, America.
