In this presentation, Dan will share some thoughts on how traditional woodworking fits into a world of modern design. Using a few of his past and current projects as examples, the focus of the meeting will encompass: project planning, design, materials, construction, and procedures. This will be a combination of PowerPoint presentation, discussion/examination of samples, and demonstration.

As usual, please bring your nametag, a chair, and $2 for coffee if you plan to partake. There is ample parking, but carpooling is always advised. For those who have the time, we'll go to Worthen House Café, 141 Worthen St, Lowell for a repeat visit for lunch after the event.
Dan's bio:
Dan Faia has been a professional woodcarver, furnituremaker, chairmaker, and educator since 1994. He currently operates a woodworking studio and small group workshop program in Rollinsford, New Hampshire. When Dan isn’t teaching or working on custom commissions or period reproductions, he is usually busy in his shop pursuing his passion for traditional woodcarving. Dan's work is displayed in private and public collections. In recognition of his dedication to the art and legacy of period furniture, Dan was named the 2023 recipient of the Cartouche Award by the Society of American Period Furniture Makers (SAPFM).
Dan has taught extensively at various schools throughout New England. He enjoys sharing information and writing, and has published numerous articles in Fine Woodworking and other digital and print media. Dan recently produced a multi-episode video workshop series on measuring and reproducing a Queen Anne side chair for Fine Woodworking. He has also been a guest on Fine Woodworking’s Shop Talk Live Podcast as well as the Modern Woodworkers Association Podcast.
Dan is an active member of the NH Furniture Masters (NHFM), Guild of NH Woodworkers (GNHW), and SAPFM. He has participated in demonstrations, presentations, and exhibits for Colonial Williamsburg, Concord Museum, Fine Woodworking, Fruitlands Museum, GNHW, Museum of Fine Arts-Boston, NHFM, NH Preservation Alliance, Old State House-Boston, Old Sturbridge Village, SAPFM, Strawbery Banke, The Furniture Society, and The Old Manse. This past January, Dan was a returning guest presenter at Colonial Williamsburg’s 26th Annual Working Wood in the 18th Century Conference.
