Chris Nassise, owner of the Green Woodshop in Easton, MA is the cabinet maker in residence at Old Sturbridge Village and has been restoring the cabinet shop there for the past couple of years. We were also lucky to have Chris speak to our group several years ago at a Saturday morning meeting.
Here is Chris's plan for the day:
"The tour will include a tour of the Cabinetmaking Shop where we will have a display case with woodworking artifacts I selected from our museum collection. We will discuss those items and have time to check out the shop. I will also guide the group on a furniture tour of three of the village households to look at furniture in context. There will be time to visit the Cooper Shop, Sawmill, see the Militia demonstrations for Muster Day and explore anything else you’d like to see."
This is a special meeting for Guild members only. The Guild is pre-paying admission to the Village. Please be sure to bring your membership card (Download it from the website - Go to Log in/View Profile and your card will appear. Bring a paper or digital copy with you).
We plan to start the day at 9:30 AM outside of the Visitor Center. If you are using a GPS, use 29 Stallion Hill Road, Sturbridge, MA 01566 as the address. Please park in the main parking lot, best near the Oliver Wight Tavern. A brick pathway leads to the Visitor Center which is a large red building. We will gather outside there while one of our representatives checks in the group as a whole, gets maps and schedules, etc. and we meet our guide.
Please note: We are guests of Old Sturbridge Village and subject to their Covid19 restrictions. At this time, masking is officially optional but certainly individuals should do what they feel is best for themselves and the potentially vulnerable members of our group. As of April 30, according to the officials at the Village, "We don't have many COVID restrictions in place currently. Mask wearing is optional for visitors and staff. You will notice in some of the buildings there are rope barriers in order to keep distance between the interpreter and visitors. We have hand sanitization stations around the grounds. Our water fountains are not up and running yet so your group members may want to bring bottled water. There is bottled water available for sale in the Bullard Tavern and Miner Grant Store on site."
