    Folks,

Cold anyone help this person out.  I feel this is just too far for me to travel from Gloucester.  See email below.

    Good morning, John!

I saw that you were listed as one of the mentors on the EMGW website. I was gifted a membership a few weeks ago back haven’t really engaged with the group much yet. I am reaching out because I am currently doing a senior project on woodworking at the Parker Charter Essential School in Devens, MA. For this project, I am in need of a mentor to help guide me in completing this project. Because of scheduling issues, I have had trouble finding a class in time and also have struggled getting started with actually making things. So, I am going to try to do the bulk of my learning on my own and with a mentor. My goal is to learn enough skills through practice projects over the next two months to eventually be able to create a chair by late March. I am looking for someone who might be able to work one on one and in person with me. I am also not entirely sure how this specific mentor program works through EMGW, or if there may be a cost involved.

If you are interested at all or able to help me in any way, that would be very much appreciated. I look forward to hearing back from you!

    Thank you,
    Jovan Tremblay

I would be happy to help if i can. I live a distance from devens but can make trips if necessary. If no one else offers who lives closer i can begin the conversation and see where it leads.

I received an email directly from this individual requesting mentoring. I responded to his email asking him to get in touch with me to discuss his goals, as learning woodworking and building a chair by March seemed like a bit of a reach. I hope he calls me so we can set up some realistic project for his graduation.  If anyone has ideas on a realistic project, I would be interested in hearing about it.

I spoke to him back in November and got him signed up for the guild but we never managed to meet up. He emailed me again as well and we're trying to coordinate a day for him to visit, but I can't give him as much time between now and March as he'll probably need to build a chair.

I told him he could probably build a "BS" style stick chair on that timescale if he's able to put in a lot of time on his own but might nudge him towards a stool as a first project. I wish I had more time to help him out right now.
