Two Windsor Chairs

Rob Carver kicks off the EMGW membership year with an entertaining article about his two Wndsor chairs.  To build these chairs Rob took a a track that not many woodworkers do.  Using tools like a drawknife, spokeshaves, scorp, travisher, and compass plane, and others, Rob takes on this challenge this his hands full.  Rob even uses his kiln for drying the green wood used for the legs and green oak for the spindles and other parts.

If that wasn't enough, Rob went into riving, whittling, and bending the oak for the spindles.

What you might also find fascinating are the processes and other aids that Rob built to facilitate his work, including his steam "box" and his use of a dual laser level system to identify and measure the compound angle mortises for the seat.

The Furniture Institute of Massachusetts is closing its doors and everything is for sale.

We are starting with the machines. 

The first people to respond will get first admittance to the shop.

Four people will be admitted at a time.

Masks are required.

You will have one hour to inspect the machines you're interested in and then the next group of four will be admitted.

All prices as indicated or best reasonable offer. 

Purchaser is responsible for moving machines.

When emails arrive marketing the tools you would like to have or a promotion or sale is advertised, what initiates your motivation to buy or pass?  Or perhaps while working on a project you’d benefit in quality, safety, or time to finish what would move you to get that in your hands?  It’s a tough call.  Discretionary savings is often inversely proportional to the desirability of certain tools.  So when, if ever, do you pull the string to buy?
