Does anyone know where I can acquire about 50 board feet of 4/4 or better old growth Douglas Fir (possibly reclaimed)?

I saw some at what was Downes and Reader about a year ago. I have no idea if the new outfit has any left.

It used to be (5 years ago) common for decking and was gorgeous stuff. More recently, it seems that the old growth/tight grained stuff isn't being harvested anymore for a wide variety of reasons.

You could try Longleaf Lumber in Boston for reclaimed.

You might also have some luck with Liberty Cedar down in RI. I'd say if anyone in NE has it, it'll be them.

I was at Highland Hardwoods in Brentwood, NH yesterday. They have "vertical grain" Douglas fir on their list of species. Wasn't looking for fir so I didn't see it myself but worth a call (603-679-1230).
